They looked out the window and what did they see?
A big snow drift. 
And the big kids playing in the snow drifts.
Kids are crawling because gusts of wind kept knocking them down.
When it got too cold to play outside the neighborhood kids got together and made Gingerbread Houses. Then they ate them.
Meaning the kids ate the gingerbread and not the other way around.
